Cooling System Care

It is important that you change your engine coolant every year. In the mainland this is hardly over looked because the winter weather is coming and you have to get your car ready. In Hawaii however, we have year round warm weather and therefore do not run the risk of our engines freezing. The pictures below show what happens when you do not change your coolant once a year.

Above: We look inside a 1990 Honda with 100,000 miles. The engine coolant was never changed!

Above: The yellow arrows point toward the corrosion.  The coolant flows around the cylinder.

Above: The red arrows show where the metal is being eaten away.

Above: Red arrows show how corrosion eats away at the cylinder walls.  If this where allowed to continue, it would allow coolant to leak into the combustion chamber. To prevent this from happening your cooling system should be flushed once a year.
